HAWC Young Leaders

The Houston Area Women's Center Young Leaders (HAWCYL) is a dynamic and energetic group of Houstonians in their 20s, 30s and 40s committed to furthering the mission of the Houston Area Women's Center. We are dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault, fundraising and providing a consistent pool of volunteers to support the efforts of the Women's Center. We seek to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for likeminded individuals of all genders and backgrounds to mingle and network with one another.

Meetings

Our general meetings are open to anyone interested in joining Young Leaders. They are typically held on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Houston Area Women's Center, 1010 Waugh Dr.  We also hold social, advocacy and fundraising events.  View our Facebook events to RSVP for our next meeting, event or member orientation.

How to Get Involved

Sign up for our newsletter to receive occasional emails announcing upcoming events and ways to support the Women’s Center.  You can also follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram. These are good options for people and businesses in the community who want to support the Young Leaders' efforts without personally becoming a member.

Join our monthly meetings every second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Women’s Center.  We also hold a 30-minute New Member Orientation right before the meetings in February, May, August, and November.  But you don’t have to wait for an orientation. To become a member, just fill out and return a membership packet and pay the membership fee below. Any questions? Email the Steering Committee.

Organization and Leadership Roles

HAWCYL is composed of general members and organized and maintained by a Steering Committee of officers contribute their time, resources and ideas to support and sustain the Young Leaders group. General meetings of the Young Leaders are held monthly and are open to all members and anyone who is interested in membership. Officer elections are held annually, and there are plenty of opportunities for general members to join sub-committees or step up and lead events and other initiatives across the year.

Commitment Requirements

We ask members to commit to contribute at least $35 to the agency and to contribute at least 10 volunteer hours for each year of membership. Volunteer hours include any and all activity in support of the Young Leaders or the Women’s Center, including attending our monthly meetings, planning or logistical support for events and any volunteering at or for the Center. Hours are tracked by our Volunteer Chair.
