This summer, we had the pleasure of working with interns from SER - Jobs for Progress of the Texas Gulf Coast, Inc. and Bank of America's Youth Summer Employment Initiative. Welcomed back to HAWC for her second summer internship, Alexia Griggs helped serve our mission by assisting in various agency roles from hotline to administration. Griggs is a recent graduate of Foster High School and will attend Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama this fall, where she'll major in business entrepreneurship.
In addition to gaining experience in the business administrative side, Alexia learned firsthand about what it takes to support survivors.
"Personally I have loved ones that have been exposed to domestic and sexual violence. Being here has allowed me to learn how to help them and help others that have been in similar situations."
The goal of the Youth Summer Employment Initiative is to offer high achieving Houston area youth with the opportunity to receive the employment skills needed to advance in their career path. We congratulate and thank Alexia for all her hard work and contribution to our mission and wish her the best of luck this fall!
