The Teen Effect
Reports of teen dating violence, bullying and online harassment via social networking sites are growing at an alarming rate. Teens are finding themselves in difficult situations, with many of them feeling alone, ashamed and afraid.
FACT: 1 in 5 teens who have been in a serious relationship report being slapped, kicked, punched or kicked by their partner.
FACT: Girls and women ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rates of relationship violence.
FACT: 1 in 3 teens say they are text messaged 10, 20, 30 times an hour by a partner keeping tabs on them.
FACT: 82% of parents whose teens were emailed or text messaged 30 times an hour were not aware of this.
FACT: The majority of parents of teen victims are unaware of the abuse.
FACT: Most teens think abusive and controlling behavior is normal in a relationship.

The Women's Center is dedicated to helping future generations identify, and hopefully prevent, the behaviors that create unhealthy relationships. We work with teen populations to identify:
