Are there any fees for trainings/presentations?Generally, presentations are provided free of charge, however donations are always appreciated if you have the ability to help. Certain trainings, such as CEUs, may require a fee. Please inquire when scheduling your training. Do you offer CEU's?Yes! Volunteer OpportunitiesDo I have to attend the "Informational Session"?Generally, yes. If you cannot attend the session, please submit the application and contact us. An interview with a representative of the Volunteer Department and/or the department of interest is required prior to volunteering as is the appropriate training for the volunteer position you will be filling. Can men volunteer at the Women's Center?Absolutely! Our volunteer opportunities are open to everyone over the age of 18. May I volunteer on weekends or after 6:00 pm?We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities with various days and times of service. We invite you to attend a Volunteer Informational Session so you may explore all of the opportunities available. You will be able to see the training required for each opportunity as well as the time commitment. As an example, our volunteer opportunities for Hotline offer three hour shifts Monday through Friday 9:00 am until 9:00 pm. May I choose where I want to volunteer?We want to place our volunteers where there is mutual benefit and satisfaction to both the volunteer and the agency. Please attend an Informational Session and we can arrange an follow-up interview. May I volunteer at the shelter?Yes, however volunteers serving clients must complete all appropriate training before volunteering. May I volunteer as a counselor, serving clients?In general, we utilize our professional staff in counseling work with clients. If you have the professional credentials to serve as a counselor, and would commit to the training required, we would be interested in talking with you. Can I still volunteer if I can't complete the training?You must complete the training appropriate for the position you will be fulfilling. For clerical positions or special project positions, you may need to attend only a short agency overview session. More complex training is required for other volunteer positions. The best way to find out about the volunteer positions available as well as the training required is the Informational Session. Staff members will be on hand to talk with you about their specific opportunities and how you can best use your talents and abilities to serve. What are the minimal hours per month required for volunteers?For individuals who want to volunteer on a regular basis, we ask that you commit to at least two shifts (6 hours) per week. We also have special project volunteer work. . May I volunteer if I'm a client?The focus for clients is to move their lives forward. Our policy requires a waiting period of one year before clients may volunteer. May my children volunteer with me?Our minimum age to volunteer is 18. |
