Domestic Violence Services Domestic violence can affect anyone. The Houston Area Women’s Center helps survivors of domestic violence in their efforts to move their lives forward. We provide crisis intervention, emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy and support services to help each survivor rebuild their life free from the effects of violence. Help is just a phone call away, 24 hours a day. Domestic Violence Hotline (713) 528-2121 The Houston Area Women’s Center offers: Emergency Assistance – Survivors are encouraged to call our Hotline for immediate assistance. Our advocates will discuss safety planning, shelter options, counseling opportunities, and available resources, so each survivor can make informed decisions. We offer referrals to other community resources, as well as provide emotional support. Concerned friends and family members are also encouraged to call to have their questions answered and to learn about helpful services for their loved one. Hospital Accompaniment – Our dedicated advocates report directly to area hospitals, 24 hours a day, to support survivors, share information about resources available to them, provide a shoulder to lean on, and advocate on their behalf with medical and law enforcement professionals. Counseling for Domestic Violence Survivors - Individual and group counseling and support services for survivors of domestic violence. Community-based counseling and advocacy services provided in communities served and for individuals with special needs. Services provided in English and Spanish, and all languages accommodated. Educational support groups for non-offending family and friends of survivors. Expert testimony in civil and criminal cases. Training and Education – Our Training and Education Department works with universities, military bases, medical professionals and law enforcement agencies to help these organizations set up specific policies, procedures and protocols for working with domestic violence and sexual assault.
